Any art tips for me?
I need some art tips. I do water color and drawing. So if you have ANY tips on these two subjects post them. Thank you!
For watercolor my art teacher told me to do layers and pay attention how you control the stroke. For drawing I'm going to assume that it is pencil? My favorite and strength area is doing pencil drawing of inanimate or portraits. For inanimate I focus on the texture a lot because it's one of the distinctive characteristic of an object. If it is metallic I always try to be as precise as possible when doing the light reflections. It's also important to pay attention to the vantage point as well as the size of the object compared to your drawing. My teacher told me some techniques but i don't remember and don't use any of it =/ sorry. For portraits sometimes i find that making a grid is useful. I don't know if you know what that is but to put it simply it's when you take a refference picture and draw a grid on it. You take the measurement of the grid and adjust it onto your blank piece of paper. It helps with proportion and detail and making it easier to draw a body in a difficult position if you're doing full-body.
Portrait is a popular subject to do but it takes a while to master because it's really difficult to capture somebody's face both technically and aesthetically. But I like the challenge. It took me a while to master hair and each artist will have his/her own way of making the hair look realistic. For me its about patient and the strokes of the pencil. Especially where there's reflection on the hair, I'd want my pencil to be sharp. Always have a sharp pencil when doing details. And don't rush anything especially when shading or it will end up crappy 90 percent of the time. You can train you eyes to distinguish the different shades of an object or a person. You don't want the picture to be flat by having the same shade. Some people use a blending technique where you lay down a foundation with your pencil and blend it with something either your fingers if they're not oily or a chamois cloth or a blending stump. Use a gum eraser to make any adjustments. And also EXPERIMENT. It takes trial and errors before you develop a technique that you like.
