there are these tiny black things on my cat that are not fleas. what could they be?
we check him all the time for fleas because sometimes he scratches. (but not all the time). se we never found any fleas, flea dirt or flea eggs... so we bought a tiny toothed comb, brushed him out, and these little black things started falling off. they are not fleas, alive or dead... they don't move but when you crush them, red stuff comes out... I think it may be some kind of mite... he only scratches sometimes, he has no bald spots, his health is impeccable, his fur is soft and shiny, low shedding... what could it be?
sounds like flea dirt to me... (flea poop.) fleas are easy to miss sometimes, even with a flea comb.
you should check with your vet.
